Symbiosis Law School, Pune’s Placement Cell organised a guest session cum workshop on “Earn after Learn- Through the Career of Mediation and Exploring Global Opportunities” by ADV. Amin Merchant, Accredited Mediator & Negotiator on 17th March 2021, Wednesday; 11.00 APM – 1:00 PM. Around 172 students from 2016-21 B.A/B.B.A L.L.B. (Hons.), 2018-21 of L.L.B. and 2020-21 of LL.M, 2017-22 of 5 Year B.A/B.B.A L.L.B. (Hons.) & 2019-22 of 3 Year L.L.B. attended the event.
The session focused on the process of resolving disputes between two or more parties. If a disagreement emerges, the parties may seek the assistance of a third-party (mediator) to help them reach a resolution. Whether the conflict is formal or informal, a mediator may often be a big help to those involved in reaching an amicable solution.
A mediator does not make decisions on behalf of the parties. A mediator, on the other hand, aids in the negotiation and resolution of disagreements. The mediator will be present to support all sides of the debate and help them to their own agreement. Those seeking a solution will seek the assistance of a mediator voluntarily.
Once a mediator has been found, the parties involved will usually meet face to face. The mediator will assist each party in seeing the other's point of view and coming to an agreement from there. Everyone will have the chance to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. After all of the information has been shared, the ultimate goal is to reach an agreement that best serves everyone's interests.
Different personality traits are better suited to different professions. If you have the personality qualities and talents listed below, you could find that a career in mediation and conflict resolution is a good fit for you.
Active listening abilities – being able to actively listen to people's points of view and feelings is a valuable talent to have in this field.
Questioning and clarifying abilities - in order to assist others in obtaining the result they desire, it is critical that you fully get what they are attempting to say.
Empathy — being able to empathise with others in difficult situations might help you become a better mediator.
Unbiased – one of the most important aspects of being a good mediator is not taking sides. You must keep your eyes and ears open.
The event came to a close with a vote of gratitude from the Symbiosis Law School's placement cell in Pune.
