Symbiosis Law School, Pune organized a Faculty development programme on “Framework for approval of genetically engineered crops inadequately prepared for deregulation” by Margaret Sova McCabe, who is an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Law, University of North Hampshire. The FDP was organized on 15th February 2017 and 30 faculty members attended the Programme.
The resource person presented on the issue of regulation of the genetically modified crops impacted the American agriculture. She further expressed her concern regarding the existing framework for such regulation. She stated that how in US despite commercial success of some crops, many consumers, conventional farmers, and organic farmers rejected genetically engineered crops as unsafe for the environment, unhealthy for the human and animals. She concluded by stating that there was a need for better regulatory framework based on the principles of regulatory science.
