Special Guest Lecture on Registration of Trademark Practical Aspects by Mustafa Saifuddin, Chairman, Legasis Partner


Symbiosis Law School, Pune organized a guest lecture on ‘Registration of Trademarks: Practical Aspects’ on 12th September, 2015. The lecture was delivered by Adv. Mustafa Safiyuddin. Adv. Mustafa Safiyuddin is Chairman of Legasis Partners, Mumbai. Having begun his career in 1982 with a leading law firm Little & Co, Mustafa Safiyuddin went on to take First Place in the Bombay Solicitor's Exam. He has completed the LL.M course from King's College, University of London specializing in Intellectual Property and Commercial Laws. He has had a long and illustrious career as a solicitor spanning almost three decades. His area of expertise is Intellectual Property including trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and patents. In this regard, he has successfully advised and litigated on behalf of various national and multinational companies like Proctor & Gamble, Raymond and Alcon. Mustafa lead and advised a team of lawyers in almost 50 legal actions initiated by Procter & Gamble against counterfeiters of Vicks, Action 500, Ariel, Pantene, etc. These were one of the most successful IP litigations in India. Apart from this, he has also contributed to the preparation of detailed representations to Government as to whether Indian patent law is TRIPS compliant. He has also acquired an equally comprehensive knowledge of Corporate and commercial law, foreign investment policy, joint ventures and foreign collaborations. Sir has further led and advised in several major transactions such as the Mercedes Benz joint venture in India with TATA’s. An eminent speaker and author, he has to his credit many prestigious international speaking assignments including speaking at the prestigious Fordham IP conference in 2006 and 2008.

Due to his great knowledge in this field, he was able to give the students a very practical overview on registration of trademark.
