INAUGURAL: WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF EU FUNDING: PROPOSAL, APPLICATION AND ACADEMIC PROJECT MANAGEMENT


Symbiosis Law School, Pune, (a constituent of Symbiosis International Deemed University) played host to the inauguration of two-day 'Workshop on Practical Aspects of EU Funding' at the Professional Development and Continuing Legal Education (PDCLE) Hall on 10th September, 2019.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the dignitaries.            Dr Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, Director, SLS, Pune, in her welcome address, noted that the international conference, a flagship event of the law school, is an annual celebration of knowledge. She further remarked that the conference accords the students and the faculty of the law school an opportunity to showcase their research acumen and engage in fruitful collaborations. She stated that SLS-P has been the pioneer in expanding the horizons of EU studies in Asia. 

With respect to the lack of platforms to promote talent, Dr Gurpur observed- "Knowledge and excellent advances in research are not the product of solitary but, of collaborative efforts that guide and contribute to the same". She concluded by exclaiming that this workshop is meant to serve as a platform of support for everyone in their research endeavours.

Nidhi Kapur, Lead- European Initiatives & Partnerships, SCIE delivered a brief introduction to the Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE), and described the activities of the newly instituted Symbiosis Centre for European Studies which spearheads various interactive programmes with European universities.

Subsequently, Dr Urvashi Rathod, Director, Symbiosis Centre for Research & Innovation specified that there has been a significant shift at SIU from a teaching-oriented to a research-based approach to its curriculum. She reflected that, "Through our research and publications, we strive to become an institution that is socially significant, nationally important and globally recognized".

Dr. Sophia Gaikwad, Head, Symbiosis Teaching Learning Resource Centre discussed the efforts of the STLRC in working dedicatedly for faculty development, aimed at training faculty members through enhancing their professional capacity and providing a strategic support system.

Prof. Mirko Varano, Senior Advisor International Projects, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University Administration International Relations Office, Stockholm, Sweden began his brief with an introduction to the Erasmus+ Porgramme that aims to augment education and training amongst the youth, encourage innovation and enhance employability with the aid of 3 Key Actions- mobility of individuals, cooperation for exchange of practices and support for policy reforms. He touched upon the objective of helping participants in acquiring skills and mutual understanding of various cultures through this programme.

Prof. Christofer Fredriksson, Independent Consultant, International Relations Coordinator & Program Advisor, Stockholm University of Arts, Stockholm, Sweden addressed the inaugural conference and highlighted the Jean Monet activities within the Erasmus+ framework, which is a capacity building process from the EU perspective. He concluded his discourse with a summary of Horizon 2020, a Specific Programme that seeks to address the new challenges in sight by utilizing science and creating an integrated and expansive base for European Studies across the globe.

The inaugural event drew to a close with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Bindu Ronald, Deputy Director, SLS Pune.
