Symbiosis Law School, Pune a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), in association with Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Trust, Mumbai organized the 11 th edition of Nani A. Palkhivala Elocution Competition in its Moot Court Hall today the 23 rd January, 2018. Programme commenced with the auspicious lighting of lamp by the dignitaries including Hon’ble Justice J A Patil, former Judge, Bombay High Court, Chairperson, Enquiry Commission Adarsh scam; Adv. Seema Bapat; Adv. Rahul Kothari, Alumnus, SLS, P, & Founder, Squarely Legal, Pune; Dr. Bindu Ronald, Deputy Director ( Academics) SLS, Pune and Dr. Atmaram Shelke, Deputy Director (Administration) SLS, Pune.
Dr. Bindu Ronald welcomed the students and apprised them of the long bonding that SLS, Pune has with the Nani A Palkhivala Trust. She encouraged students to participate in such competitions as such experiences groom ones oratory skills which is a must for a law student.
8 participants from different colleges of Pune city spoke on one of the following topics: ‘Law of Criminal Defamation - its validity under the Constitution of India’, ‘Do Indian courts deliver Justice or are merely forums implementing Rule of Law?’ and ‘Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in India- do they deliver?’
Hon’ble Justice J A Patil, appreciated the performance of the participants and shared his wisdom & expertise with them. Adv. Bapat said that it is necessary for law students to keep reading and thus keep evolving with the ever-changing dynamics of law. Adv. Kothari emphasized the concept of elocution and the larger perspective of learning the art as opposed to the winning or losing which is inevitable in competitions.
Hon’ble Justice J A Patil gave away the prizes to the winners. Shashank Sardesai, D.E.S Shri. Navalmal Firodia Law College, Pune, won the second-runners up position with first runners up bagged by Himanshi Gogia of Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College, Pune. Rohit Bhattacharya, SLS-P won the first prize.
The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Atmaram Shelke.
