Symbiosis Law School, Pune believes in global exchange of knowledge, cultural dissemination and intellectual capacity building. In its endeavour to achieve this objective Symbiosis Law School, Pune under the aegis of Symbiosis International University undertakes to strengthen ties with various Universities around the world. 25th January 2014 witnessed the culmination of one of its efforts in the form of a visit of a contingent of 15 students from Flinders University, South Australia to participate in an academic and cultural exercise under the 'Study India' Programme. The contingent was headed by Prof. David Bamford, Associate Head (International), Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law, Flinders University Adelaide, South Australia.
Seven day visit of the Australian contingent from 25th of Jan to 31st of Jan 14, traversed the path of discourses on Human Rights, Justice, Education and included glimpses into the cultural, legal, political and Constitutional system of India as well as an exposure to hands on learning experience of the legal system. This involved visits to the Court, NGOs dealing with environment and legal issues, legal aid camp etc.
On the 26th January the Australian contingent witnessed the 65th Indian Republic day celebrations including the Flag hoisting ceremony, and a cultural programme in the evening by the students of SCIE, at the Ambedkar Museum Campus. The students absolutely enjoyed the cultural programme and were astounded by the marvellous performances, by the students from all over the world depicting their respective culture and traditions.
The students visited F.C Road, Aga Khan Palace and the Chaturshringi temple on Sunday. They learnt about the Indian culture and had insights into the lives of Freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the Indian freedom struggle. In the lectures arranged for them they learnt about Civil litigation, Dispute resolution in India, Contemporary dimensions of Human Rights and Gender Justice, Family law in India, Intellectual property Rights, Cyber Crimes and Jurisdiction etc. They also attended a lecture on Warli painting and polished their creative side. They learnt about the Warli tribe, their origin and customs. They thoroughly enjoyed the class and made beautiful pieces of Warli art.
During a field trip, they visited the Commissioner's office and a police station in Pune, interacted with the Commissioner and learnt about the Crime trends and the Police force in India. With the help of Adarsh Mitra Mandal they visited a rehabilitation centre and learnt about the measures taken for the rehabilitation of prisoners and the support provided to their families and children.
The programme reached its zenith with the cultural evening organised by the students of Symbiosis Law School, Pune on 31st of Jan 14 showcasing the glimpse of rich Indian culture. It was a unique and enlightened experience for all of them.
