Symbiosis Law School, Pune organised a guest lecture on the changing concept of originality in copyright which was delivered by Dr. Anirban Mazumdar, Associate Professor, National University for Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. The session was organised for the students of Fourth Year BALLB and BBALLB Batch who are having the subject of Intellectual Property Law. 50 students attended the session.
The resource person while giving several references spoke about the change from the traditional concept of originality which only emphasised on merely an independent creation to the modern day interpretations of originality which require a higher standard of at least minimal degree of creativity. Dr. Anirban further spoke about the Sweat of brow doctrine and how it is not followed in India and its implications on the database industry.
